This list of Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants in Nairobi will come in handy if living in or coming to Kenya.

It is a long-gone debate that Kenya dominates when it comes to tourism and this means tourists of different races, religion and cultures including vegans and Vegetarians will visit Kenya at some point.

Am here to take care of you all. Today we are going on a trip to see a list of Restaurants with Vegans and Vegetarians who happens to be visiting or living in Nairobi, Kenya.

But before that, what is the difference between Vegetarian and Vegan? Well, in the simplest terms possible.

A vegetarian doesn`t take animal meat but can take the animal by-products like Eggs and Milk. A vegan, on the other hand, strictly stay out of animal Meat and their byproducts.

Without much ado, let’s delve into our trip and see the list of Vegetarian and Vegan restaurants in Nairobi.

Tucked in the Indian inhabited Parklands. Chowpatty is one of the best Vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Nairobi.

You have an option of sitting upstairs and ideal for a romantic dinner or date. Their menu includes Italian Pizza, Pasta and other several options including.

The north and south Indian dishes and some Chinese cuisine. As a Vegan/Vegetarian Chowpatty will take care of you.

19.) Urban Eatery.

Westlands Delta Corner in that PWC Tower is where Urban Eatery is tucked. This modern Restaurant has quite a share for vegetarians and Vegans.

They have what they call Mediterranean Vegetarian Brekkie of hummus, stir fry Mushrooms and Spinach. Spicy Basil baked beans with Toast.

Open from 7am – 11pm Monday – Thursday; 7am – 1am Friday, 10am – 1am Saturday & 10am – 10pm Sunday.

Parking is free in the basement Eatery Level 1 but during weekends you can park anywhere within.

18.) About Thyme.

Tucked in the vibrant neighbourhoods of Westlands. About Thyme is vegetarian and vegan friendly.

However, for vegans remember to summon your waiter to Omit the cheese when you order Butternut squash with spiced lentils.

It is an Oasis of lush surrounding tucked in the Karen suburbs and the other one in the middle of the busy Langata where you will not want to leave because of the instant Tin Roof Café welcoming ambience and warmness.

Both cafés are vegetarian and Vegan friendly.

16.) Wasp and Sprout.

Based in Loresho, Wasp & Sprout is a family-owned business that serves delicious cuisine.

Despite being more of a vegetarian than Vegans there are options you can try as vegan. The African art-themed café is ideal for relaxing. Their Wi-Fi is fast and their services are of modern class.

They are open Mon-Thursday: 8am-5pm Friday: 8am-8pm Sat/Sun/Public Holiday: 8am-2pm

15.) Boho Eatery.

Tucked in Langata, Ndovu Road. Boho Eatery is one of the best Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants in Nairobi.

Its location is just a 7- and 13-minutes’ drive to Giraffe Centre and Karen Blixen Museum. This makes it favourable for Nairobi destination hunters.

It is a converted house with an outdoor bar and a patio. So, what can you try here? Mushroom Ceviche, coconut cream Pana cotta, scrambled tofu for a breakfast bowl.

14.) Habesha Restaurant.

Tucked in Hurlingham along Arwings Kodhek Road is a good renown Ethiopian/Eritrea hub cuisine.

It was voted in the Taste Awards for the best Restaurant worth your money. If you`re on a budget this is one of the best Vegan and Vegetarian restaurants in Nairobi you should try.

So, what to try here? You will not go wrong with Vegetarian Platter. Though I will be back for the Injera (An Ethiopian Delicacy).

13.) Mercado Mexican.

So, let’s fly in Mexico right here in Nairobi`s Kenrail Towers next to 9west Building in Westlands.

They have vegan and Vegetarian-friendly cuisine. What to try-: Mushroom, spinach & mozzarella cheese. As for the Vegans you can order without the cheese.

You can also try Sizzling vegetables sautéed in Mexican spices served with fresh wheat tortilla, refried beans, signature Mexican rice, pico de gallo & guacamole.

It is open daily Monday to Sunday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

12.) Ashiana Vegetarian Restaurant.

It is located in Apic Centre along Muthithi Road. As the name suggests, it is one of the dedicated vegetarian and Vegan restaurants in Nairobi.

Their Indiana thali, vegetable pizza, rice, Veggie burgers are available. For those of us who like dining in the open, there is a spacious outdoor set up for you.

Open every day from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

11.) Talisman Restaurant.

Tucked in Karen Suburbs, an ideal place for lunch after Nairobi National Park Tour. They seem to stand out when it comes to taking care of Vegans and Vegetarians.

You have a dedicated Menu for you as a vegetarian with options for the Vegans like teriyaki tofu and rolls.

Above all their food is not only delicious but also organic.

They open

10.) Tamambo Karen Blixen.

Tucked in Karen Suburbs another ideal place for vegetarians and vegans. You can have your lunch here if you`re doing Nairobi National Park or Karen Blixen Museum or Giraffe Centre not forgetting the Animal Orphanage.

Such in a location is Tamambo which has a wide Menu selection for both Vegetarians and Vegans.

They have an outdoor Terrance and garden for ala carte. Open as from 10:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM.

9.) Thai Chi Restaurant – The Stanley Hotel.

This is the most prominent Thai Restaurant in East and Central Africa. Try it and you will probably concur with the title.

There`s one thing that makes it stand out though. As you wait for your delicious food to be prepared.

You will be offered a neck complimentary massage. Sounds cool eh? Yes, it does. It is also one of the best Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant in Nairobi.

They have a wide selection of Vegetarians and vegans, though a bit pricey but worth every dime. Tucked in the heart of Nairobi CBD, you can try them after or even before a Safari.

  • Lunch: Opening Hours: 1200hrs – Closing Hours: 1430hrs.
  • Dinner: Opening Hours: 1900hrs – Closing Hours: 2230hrs.

 8.) Zen Garden.

They are well known for their vegetarian Sushi Platters and their oversized Vegetarian Pizzas.

You can order, take away or private dinners. They have parking which is validated and a bar within the facility.

The vegan option may be limited but they will have something delicious for you.

Tucked in Lower Kabete in a serene environment, their menu includes Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Sushi, Thai, Vegetarian and Vegans cuisine.

7.) Bridges Organic Restaurant.

It may not be well known to many but it is one of the best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Nairobi.

Tucked right in the middle of Nairobi CBD, Tubman Road Trust Mansion Building, Ground Floor. Friendly staff and prices as well. Their services are also on point and I couldn`t recommend them any better.

6.) Abyssinia.

They have a wide selection of Vegetarian and Vegan option. Even omnivores are equally taken care of at Abyssinia.

Tucked in Westlands Brookside Grove, this restaurant has won the hearts of many with their delicious foods and having a wide selection not forgetting their friendly staff.

It is open Monday to Sunday from 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM.

5.) Art Caffe.

Do you want to feast on that Vegan burger? Art Caffe is the place, though the choices for Vegan are slim.

The vegetarian option has variety. I think they should look into Vegans and add more choices.

If they did that they would be among the best Vegetarian and Vegan restaurants in Nairobi.

4.) Furusato Japanese Restaurant.

They are mindful of vegans and vegetarians. Located in Ring Road Parklands Westlands. Furusato has different cuisine ranging from Japanese, Sushi, Asian and Specials like Vegan and Vegetarian-Friendly Options and Gluten-Free Options.

The food is not only delicious but also quite affordable.

3.) Fonda NBO.

Talk of choices, this restaurant has all the Vegan and Vegetarian options. Tucked in Limuru Road Rosslyn Riviera Mall.

Fonda is popular within Nairobi and its environs for its Mexican cuisine. Their funny name which I came to learn later means, an inn in Arabic makes me not forget this Restaurant.

They have different cuisine which includes, Mexican, Latin, Central American and Street Food. Their Special Diet is Vegan and Vegetarian options.

2.) Tamarind Restaurant.

Tucked in the Karen suburbs Tamarind is widely known for French, Asian and African cuisines with specialities such as the famous Prawns Piri Piri, and Chili Crab.

It is also one of the most ideal Vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Nairobi. Being ideal for lunch those who are doing Nairobi Excursions such as Karen Blixen, Oloolua Nature Trails just to mention a few.

Open throughout the week Monday to Sun from 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM.

Mouthwatering defines Harvest Restaurant, tucked in the Trademark Hotel, Limuru Road next to The Village Market.

It is already in a Nairobi sought after destination. Making it an ideal place to end your Nairobi Excursion as you take your delicious meal.

They have friendly Vegetarian and Vegan Options making it an ideal place.

Conclusion.

This is my list of Vegan and Vegetarian restaurants in Nairobi, Kenya. Probably I will be adding more soon as they keep popping out every day.

Getting a friendly Vegan and Vegetarian restaurant can sometimes be challenging especially when you order your meal and only end up with a frown face.

Since you did not get what you wanted. It can get more frustrating when you`re a vegan and they confuse you for a vegetarian.
